PROFILE: Scott is a very active professional musician in the Denver/Rocky Mountain region of Colorado, performing as lead trumpet and soloist with numerous groups in the area. Scott plays all styles of big band jazz, rock/pop/funk, theatrical performances, and even polkas, putting him in high demand.
METROPOLITAN JAZZ ORCHESTRA: Scott is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (MJO), one of the region’s premier big bands. The MJO is not only an active performing group but their signature education program, MJO Presents, keeps the band busy twice a month at Dazzle Jazz Club. MJO Presents features local high school jazz ensembles in this Downbeat “Top 100 Jazz Clubs” venue. This unique program gives jazz students an opportunity to perform in a world class venue, watch a set by MJO and participate in a grand finale which features both groups performing together!
The MJO is also in high demand for premier black tie and charitable events including recent performances at Wings Over The Rockies Air & Space Museum and Cherokee Castle and Ranch Foundation.
In addition to their MJO Presents program, an active Guest Artist Program (GAP) brings world renowned jazz talent in for Master Classes/clinics, which culminates in an evening collaborative musical performance. Recent guests include Wayne Bergeron, Andy Martin, Eric Marienthal, Carl Saunders and Roger Ingram, and many others! 2014 will feature Becky Martin and Denis DiBlasio.
CHASED: In early 2009, Scott teamed with fellow trumpet player, Jay Nakagawa to form CHASED, a Bill Chase tribute band (officially sanctioned by the estate of Bill’s), featuring authentic arrangements of trumpeter Bill Chase's three albums, as well as many unrecorded tunes that were only performed live.
CHASED REVISITED: Scott has also been featured with Chase Revisited, the group of remaining original CHASE members, most recently in Los Angeles in 2012 for the LA Jazz Groovin’ Hard jazz festival.
PROJECTS: Scott is currently involved in several other projects including the Ultraphonic Jazz Orchestra, William and The Romantics (swing band), Six Foot Joe & The Red Hot Rhinos (local blues band), Mass Hipsteria (11 piece horn band), Planet Polka, Hot Schnapps, and as manager and performer in drummer Gary Lefrancois' Big Panic Big Band. Scott also does professional copying/engraving for Walrus Music, helping to keep big band literature current and relevant.
BACKGROUND: Scott’s influences start with Herb Alpert and the TJB, the Tonight Show’s Doc Severinsen, as well as Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval, John Faddis and the Tower of Power horns. By day, Scott is a professional pilot and instructor for United Airlines. He has also spent 24 years on active and reserve duty in the Navy as a pilot. He is an active member of the Denver area’s Navy Funeral Honor team.
