China National Symphony Orchestra
Xiao Yang has a growing reputation as a young trombonist in China. He is a member of the China Brass Ensemble, and he won first prize in the International Brass Solo Competition in 2013. After graduating from Royal Academy of Music (UK), Xiao took and won the audition to become First Trombone with the China National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO).
Xiao was born in 1990 in Beijing, China. He began to study trombone with Prof. Zhao Ruilin and Liu Yang of Central Conservatory of Music since 2002. He entered Central Conservatory of Music with the highest brass score in 2009 and joined China Youth Symphony Orchestra as principal trombone. After three years of work as a trombone tutti in CNSO, he entered Royal Academy of Music with a top scholarship and Mark Elliott Brass prize to pursue his Master degree of Arts. During the years, he studied with Ian Bousfield - the famous International Trombone soloist, Dudley Bright - the principal trombone of London Symphony Orchestra, and Mark Templeton - the principal trombone of London Philharmonic Orchestra. Also, Xiao joined Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra as principal trombonist, and he got 95 points in his professional and technical assessment. Finally, he got the degree of Master of Arts with Distinction in Performance in 2017.
In recent years, Xiao has performed with numerous professional symphony orchestras throughout Asia, Europe and North America, including London Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, New World Symphony Orchestra, Macau Symphony Orchestra and the National Centre of the Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra. As a trombone tutor, he performed and tutored at many of the world's top universities, including University of Cambridge, Oxford, Wellington and Tsinghua. He was invited to record a video of the global musicians' public benefit program “The Acrobat Challenge” and broadcast it on BBC news. This has made him increasingly influential among the world's younger generation of trombone players.
During his trombone career, Xiao has got a lot of awards and solo. In 2004, He got the first prize of the amateur group in the 2nd National Brass competition for the soloist and won the championship in the 1st Electioneering of Chinese Teenagers Artists. In 2008, He was fortunate enough to be invited by the National Theatre to play in “The 29th Beijing Olympic Games Youth Art Exhibition”, performing Ferdinand David Trombone Concertino with Golden Sail Orchestra. In 2011, He went to Singapore for the 6th International Music Competition and won the first prize in professional trombone group. In 2013, He got the champion of the professional group in the 13th National Brass competition for the soloist, and he also got the first prize in the John Solomon concerto competition in 2016.
As to recording, 2014 witnessed the establishment of a CD issued by Central Conservatory of Music entitled “Masters Teach You Trombone Performance” co-recorded with Professor Liu Yang. And publish the Guide Book of Trombone Quartet in 2015. He also recorded music for a large number of movies, TV shows and big parties. He attended the recording of Gabrieli Brass with the Julliard School trombone students conducted by Reinhold Friedrich in 2016.
