Andrew Duncan joined the Lexington Philharmonic as principal trombone in September 2013. His professional performing credits include appearances as principal trombone with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, Dayton Bach Society, and Northwest Indiana Symphony. He has also appeared with the Dayton Opera, West Virginia Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Cincinnati Pops, and Cleveland Pops. From 2009-2015, Andrew served as principal/lead trombone of the US Air Force Band of Flight, where he also served as Music Director of the Wright Brass Quintet and Tour Director for the Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Prism Brass ensembles.
As a soloist, Mr. Duncan has appeared in recitals at universities and conventions throughout the Midwest, including an engagement as featured soloist with the USAF Band of Flight at the West Virginia Music Educators Association conference. As lead trombone of the Disney All-American College Band at the Disneyland Resort, Andrew played alongside Wayne Bergeron, Marcus Printup, Jiggs Whigham, Alex Iles, and many other musical luminaries, and recorded a big band album at Capitol Records’ Studio "A".
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Duncan started playing trombone at age nine and eventually studied with Peter Sullivan and Murray Crewe of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He then furthered his studies in lessons and master classes with Massimo LaRosa, Joseph Alessi, Toby Oft, and James Markey.
Mr. Duncan is a committed educator and aims to use music to teach valuable life skills. He served on the faculty of Central State University from 2010-2014 and has presented master classes and recitals at Indiana University, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the University of California at Los Angeles, and Carnegie Mellon University. He also presents regular clinics to emerging performers at numerous high schools throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
