Benny Wiame began his musical studies with Leon Petre at the academy of Sint Truiden. He continued his studies at the Lemmensinstitute in Leuven (Belgium) and the Royal Conservatory in Brussels (Belgium) where he received fisrt price for trumpet in the class of Jerôme De Brauwer and he received master in Chambermusic with Arie Van Lysbeth. At the age of 22 he became the solotrumpettist with the Filharmonie in Antwerp (Belgium) and not much later he was asked to fill the same position with the well-known Rotterdam Philharmonic. He served under Bernard Haitink, Valery Gergiev, Simon Rattle, Claus Peter Flor, Kurt Sanderling, Jaap van Zweden and many others. Has soloist he played in many countries. Benny Wiame is considered to have the almost complete trumpetrepertoire on his program. Currently he is professor at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven as well as the Conservatory in Gent and the Conservatory in Maastricht.
In 2010 he founded the unique and refreshing ensemble “New Brass Directionâ€, a brassensemble of 19 musicians (incl rhythmsection) which combines classical music and jazz which have never been done before, using well-known jazzmusicians as well classical players!
Together with Geert Callaert he started to record Belgium works for trumpet and piano. Wiame considers it his task to cherish these Belgium beauties.
Benny plays exclusively Bach and is considered to be a Bachfanatic!
With his company Trombach he sets a new standard in advising players to play Bach!
