Chen Shengduo, University of Georgia DMA candidate.
Shengduo was born in Beijing in 1992, began playing the piano at age of four, and the trumpet when he was nine, studied with Qiang Wang, the principal trumpet of PLA military band. In 2008, Shengduo began to study trumpet performing with the trumpet professor of China Central Conservatory - Dai Zhonghui.
He earned his bachelor of music from Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in 2015, where he earned scholarships and studied under Mr. Joseph Burgstaller, the former member of “Canadian Brass”.
Shengduo received his Master of Music from New England Conservatory, where he studied under several different teachers from the trumpet section of Boston Symphony Orchestra, which include Michael Martin, Benjamin Wright and Thomas Rolfs. During 2016, he worked with the Russian composer, Sofia Asgatovna Gubaidulina, and performed her brass quartet piece, Quattro. During his time in United States, Shengduo also studied with different trumpet teachers, which include Barbara Bulter and Andy Balio.
Shengduo is currently pursuing his DMA degree with full scholarship at the University of Georgia, where he studied under the former principal trumpet of New York Philharmonic - Philip Smith.
