Dana Legg

The Dana Legg Stage Band
The Leggbones
Echelon
The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band

Bio:
A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, Dana performed his first original piano composition at the age of 6. With the trombone, he found that an excessive amount of air was not a bad thing. Soon, he was a featured soloist in the jazz band. Dana’s first professional job came at the age of 15. By 18, he was a member of the musician’s union and playing “real” gigs. He played in terrific college bands at Southwestern Community College, under the direction of Iowa jazz legend, Dick Bauman, and the internationally recognized program at the University of Northern Iowa.

In the 80s, Dana became a “road rat”, touring with the Jan Garber and Guy Lombardo Orchestras, and working cruise ships and circuses. Since putting down stakes in the Chicago area, he has played with virtually every great band there, and in 1992, started THE DANA LEGG STAGE BAND, a 19 piece powerhouse of a big band that has earned accolades with every performance. His first cd, BONEHEADS, was released in 1996, and garnered very favorable reviews. The latest cd, THE OTHER ONE will be out in 2008, and features Selmer artist Mark Colby.

Along with the DLSB, Dana also leads The LEGGBONES, an 8 piece trombone band, a jazz quintet, and ECHELON, an incredible 10 piece pop group.

Dana is a popular clinician and guest soloist at jazz contests and school concerts all over the United States. He has played in a dozen different countries, and at Lincoln Center, High Park in Toronto, Milwaukee’s Summerfest, and Chicago’s Jazz and Blues fests.

He’s shared the stage with these great performers: Bruce Adler, Monty Alexander, Peter Appleyard, Louie Bellson, Randy Brecker, John Caponera, Pete Christlieb, Mark Colby, Don Cornell, Orbert Davis, Tom Dreesen, Kurt Elling, Tim Eyerman, Carl Fontana, Bruce Forman, T.S. Galloway, Burgess Gardner, Tom Garling, Henry Johnson, Warren Kime, Nick Lane, Rick Lawn, Frank Mantooth, Paul McKee, The Mills Brothers, Joe Morrissey, Barbara Morrison, David “Fathead” Newman, Daniel Rodriguez, Randy Sandke, Tom Scott, Bobby Shew, Clark Terry, Brian Torff, Jerry Vale, Frank Wess, Max Weinberg, and Margeret Whiting.

Dana is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, NARAS (The Grammys), the International Association of Jazz Education, The International Trombone Association and the Chicago Jazz Institute.

Dana’s arrangements are published by Walrus Music Publishing.
