Dallas Horns
Daniel Matthews is an in-demand, touring and session trumpet player based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Daniel’s active performance career has led him to share the stage with Grammy award winning artists such as Father John Misty, Pacific Mambo Orchestra and A.R. Rahman. Daniel is a founder of the “Dallas Horns.”
Formed in 2016, the “Dallas Horns” is steeped in the variety of influences from the Dallas music scene. Their music features funky, high-intensity horn lines. Known for their high level of organization, the group frequently collaborates with various artists as studio musicians, arrangers, and live performers. The Dallas Horns is an energy injection that adds power and excitement to any musical setting, always striving to demonstrate that “Horns Make Everything Better”
The group has come to establish connections with collaborative partners all around the world, and has toured internationally with artists such as A.R. Rahman, Udit Narayan, Neeti Mohan, Jonita Gandhi, Javed Ali, and Haricharan. Individual credits of the members include Patti LeBelle, Bobby McFerrin, Father John Misty, Ruban Studdard, Clay Aiken, Johnny Mathis, and many more.
Since 2018, Dallas Horns has been a permanent addition for multiple Grammy and Oscar award winning composer A.R. Rahman as a part of his live show, “A.R. Rahman Live,” performing all across the globe. As one of the most celebrated artists in the history of recorded music, A.R. Rahman has won 135 of the 158 awards for which he was nominated. In 2009, he was listed on “Time’s 100 list of world’s most influential people.”
Daniel’s first love in music was Jazz. Daniel has performed in a number of prestigious jazz festivals throughout the world including, but not limited to; The Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Jazz A Vienne in France, The Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa, India, The Monterey Jazz Festival in Monterey, California, and The San Jose Jazz Festival in San Jose, California. Daniel’s recent jazz recording credits include sideman contributions to projects with Rich Perry, Erin Dickins, Eric Marienthal, Ranjit Barot, and more.
In addition to his performing and recording credits, Daniel feels a deep commitment to sharing his knowledge and expertise through teaching and adjudication.
In 2016, Daniel held an adjunct faculty position for the world-renowned University of North Texas College of Music where he taught jazz theory, trumpet, and improvisation as the youngest adjunct faculty member in the jazz studies department at the age of 24. Daniel maintains a busy schedule teaching private lessons with focuses in trumpet fundamentals, classical trumpet, jazz improvisation, jazz arranging, and music business.
Daniel earned a Bachelor’s of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Jose State University and a Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from The University of North Texas, where he was a member of the multi Grammy-nominated One ‘O Clock Lab Band.
Daniel plays a Bach Stradivarius 37 Bb Trumpet, Conn 1050 Bb Trumpet, and a C.G. Conn Vintage One Flugelhorn.
