A graduate of St.Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, where he studied at the class of Professor Victor Sumerkin. The Associate Professor of the Conservatory.
Artistic Experience
1992 – today The soloist and the concertmaster for trombones at Mariinsky Theatre orchestra under the conduct of Valery Gergiev. The founder and the artistic director of the Mariinsky orchestra’s Brass quintet.

Associate Professor at St.Petersburgh Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory.
Teacher of trombone at a specialized musical school by St.Petersburgh Conservatory.
Regularly delivers master classes in different cities of Russia and abroad.
Additional information
In 2000 Igor Yakovlev and the Brass quintet received personal invitations from HRH Prince Charles and participated in a gala concert in Buckingham Palace.
Being the soloist of the Mariinsky theatre, Igor Yakovlev worked with many great conductors: Evgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Ilya Musin, Christoph Eschenbach, Placido Domingo and many others.
Igor Yakovlev participates in the activities aimed at the development of the Russian trombone school. He is a regular lecturer and performer at “Anatoly Skobelev’s Musical Evenings” arranged by Arkady Starkov.
