Funky Dawgz Brass Band
Josh Murphy is a Connecticut born and raised Tuba player. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music studying under Gary Sinkiewicz. He has played on stages all over the world from New York, to Florida, to New Orleans to Spain. Notably, he performed two sold out shows with the band Dispatch at Madison Square Garden in New York City. His main project now is the Funky Dawgz Brass Band. They are a New Orleans style brass band made up entirely of former Uconn students. They can be found anywhere in the world starting a party of their own, backing a band as their horn section, or in a school system working with young musicians developing their talents, acting as mentors and inspiring them to continue with music and music education. Josh is a big music education ambassador; he frequently visits schools to work with their jazz programs, and with students individually in private lessons. He is also a band director in Coventry, CT. He recently started as a guest artist instructor for the Uconn Brass Band Ensemble and the Charter Oak Cultural Center Brass Band after school program in Hartford, CT. On stage, he is a force of energy and loves laying down the bass with his fellow backline musicians. He believes that music is a force of change and everyone can tell their own story through it.
