Dr. Lori Ardovino is the Professor of Clarinet and Saxophone at the University of Montevallo. She is clarinetist with the Meállo Trio, the LeBaron Trio, and alto saxophonist with the Cahaba Saxophone Quartet. Dr. Ardovino is an active performer in the Birmingham area and performs occasionally with the Alabama and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestras and tenor saxophone with the Joe Giattina Big Band. She is an active woodwind doubler and has played for numerous performances and theater productions in the Birmingham area. She is a clinician, adjudicator, and writes CD and music reviews for the Clarinet-official journal of the International Clarinet Association and the Journal of the International Association for Women in Music.
Dr. Ardovino has been a guest artist at numerous colleges and universities and international and national festivals including the International ClarinetFest, North American Saxophone Alliance, National Association of Wind and Percussion Instructors, College Music Society and International Alliance for Women in Music. Recently she performed at the NACWPI conference in October 2017 and will be a solo artist at the North America Saxophone Alliance convention in Cincinnati March 2018. Dr. Ardovino received the 2013-14 Alabama State Council for the Arts Artist Fellowship and was chosen the 2013 University of Montevallo University Scholar. She has received the Creative and Scholarly Projects Grant from the University of Montevallo in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, and was the 2012 recipient of the Escape to Create artist residency in Seaside, FL. Locally, Dr. Ardovino has performed as soloist with the Red Mountain Chamber Orchestra, Thompson High School Symphonic Band, Pelham High School Band and University of Montevallo Honor Band and University of Montevallo Wind Ensemble.
She is an active composer and has had her works performed across the United States, Japan, Italy and Canada. She is an advocate for new music and is currently a composer/performer member of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance. Her CD’s include, From A Crack In The Wall-clarinet music by Alabama Composers, Between Walls-saxophone music by Alabama Composers and The LeBaron Trio-works for clarinet, piano and voice. Her fourth CD, Saxophone Music by Living Women Composers will be out in December of 2017. She has won several ASCAP awards for her compositions. She is a graduate of Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Michigan State University and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Her teachers include Keith Lemmons, Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr and Ron De Kant.
She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, Birmingham Music Teachers Association, National Association of Music Educators, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, International Clarinet Association, North American Saxophone Alliance, Birmingham Art Music Alliance, Sigma Alpha Iota, International Alliance of Women in Music, National Association of Composers, and National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors. Currently Dr. Ardovino is President of the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors. She was the Composition Chair for the Alabama Music Teachers Association (2013-2017) and President for the Higher Education Division-Alabama Music Educators (2011-2013). She is an Artist/Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Company and D’Addario Woodwinds.
