Maja Helmes was born in Copenhagen. She studied the trumpet at the Royal Danish Music Academy where her professor was Christer Nilsson. Afterwards she studied and graduated in Berlin at the Music Academy Hanns Eisler. There her professor was Mr. Prof. William Forman.
Additionally Maja attended a scholarship at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. During that period her relevant teacher was the trumpet soloist Tamas Velenzcei.
Maja has performed regularly with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and was also a member of the young Gustav-Mahler-Orchestra and the Young UE Orchestra.
With a great interest Maja dedicated herself to chamber music.
She won several awards with her own brass instrument quintet, “ART of Brass Copenhagen" (Narbonne 2000).
Maja is also an in demand solist. 2002 Maja won the Danish Rodovre Award. May 2002 Maya gained the highest award of the German Economic Cultural Circle.
September 2002 Maja got the Great Danish Jacob Gade Award.
August 2002 unttil February 2003 Maja worked with the “German Opera House” in Berlin. Since April 2003 she has been the deputy trumpet principal of the “Radio Broadcast Hessen” Orchestra.
