Mirasol Quartet of Lubbock, Texas draws their name and musical inspiration from the intensity of the West Texas sun. Paramount to their vision of chamber music performance is their dedication to uniting the innovation of collaborative artistry with the mission of community outreach. Formed in the fall of 2013 at Texas Tech University, the quartet consists of James Barger, Andrew Reinhart, Ben Still, and Ben Donnell.
The group has earned national recognition through performances at several chamber music competitions around the country. Most recently, Mirasol Quartet was awarded the Gold Medal in the Wind Division at the 42nd Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition held at The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. Other accomplishments include being named 3rd place national winner at the 2014 Music Teachers National Association's "Chamber Winds" Competition in Chicago, IL; finalist in the 2014 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Quartet Competition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the 69th Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition in Pasadena, CA; and quarterfinalist in the 41st Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Additionally, Mirasol Quartet was invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in San Antonio, TX and has performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 4 Conference in Norman, OK.
Most recently, Mirasol Quartet traveled to the Midwest for the 2015 Fischoff Double Gold Medal Winner’s Tour, presenting concerts and master classes at Andrews University, Ivy Tech Community College, Wabash College, Culver Academies, and several public schools in Mishawaka, Indiana. Committed to the impact of musical and educational outreach, the group has performed numerous public school concerts and clinics around the state of Texas as advocates of arts education and chamber music.
