Morehead State University
A Kentucky based saxophonist, Nathan Mensink is an active performer in both classical and jazz styles and serves as visiting assistant professor of saxophone at Morehead State University. His musical endeavors have taken him across the United States and Europe. Recent performances include John William's Escapades, which opened a Festival Miami program featuring Ben Folds, as well as Ralph Martino’s Gershwin Fantasy under the baton of legendary conductor Colonel Arnald Gabriel. Other solo highlights include Jacques Ibert’s Concertino Da Camera with chamber orchestra, Claude Smith’s Fantasia for Alto Saxophone and Band with the Utah State University Wind Ensemble, and Libby Larsen’s Holy Roller with the Utah Valley University Concert Band.
Mensink has appeared at events such as the World Saxophone Congress, the International Navy Saxophone Symposium, the College Music Society Conference, the Frontwave New Music Festival, and others. Notable venues include Carnegie Hall in New York, Cite De La Musique Et De La Danse in Strasbourg, France, the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando, the New World Center in Miami Beach, and the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.
He has performed with the New World Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Frost Opera Theater, Salt Lake Symphonic Winds, and more. He has backed artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Take Six, Michael Feinstein, Kirk Whalum, Harry Watters, Dave Pietro, Corey Christiansen, Byron Stripling, and Alicia Hall Moran.
Mensink holds Doctoral and Masters degrees in saxophone performance from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL and a bachelor's degree in music education from Utah State University in Logan, UT.
