Rich Wetzel grew up in Los Angeles, CA studying trumpet with Frank Sinatra’s long time lead trumpet player and top studio player, Walt Johnson and now resides in the northwest USA near Seattle, Washington.
After high school Rich played in the US Army in Europe and US Air Force National Guard Band back in Los Angeles where he played with a variety of other top bands, shows all over Los Angeles and Orange County CA. His powerful and exciting playing led him to eventually form his own band.
Rich Wetzel has four CD’s with his jazz-rock big band, Rich Wetzel's Groovin' Higher Orchestra, all have been featured prominently on jazz radio stations all over the world and he has been featured in Jazz Improv, LA Jazz Scene, The Brass Herald and Cadence magazines.
He has played lead trumpet for some of the biggest names in show business to include The Four Tops, The Temptations, the Spinners, The Ojays, The Coasters, The Platters, Wayne Newton, Charo, Smokey Robinson, Al Martino, El Chicano, and many more.
In addition to an accomplished playing career, Rich is the NW District Manager for Conn-Selmer musical instruments, and is one of today's top active, working trumpet players on the jazz scene and a clinician for Bach trumpets.
