Seth comes from Pennsylvania Dutch country in Southeast Pennsylvania. He grew up in Reading, PA and is the proud son of two fine music educators.
Seth began performing professionally in 2009. He has played at some of the biggest jazz venues across the country including the Jazz Standard, the Detroit Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, and the Next Generation Jazz Festival of the Monterey Jazz Festival. He has shared the stage and recorded with the likes of René Marie, Terell Stafford, Rodney Whitaker, Etienne Charles, Obed Calvaire, Michael Dease and many other great jazz musicians of today.
He holds a masters degree in jazz performance from Michigan State University and a bachelors from the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. He was mentored by Dick Oatts of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra as well as the great tenor saxophonists, Timothy Warfield Jr. and Diego Rivera. He has appeared with the Creole Soul Jazz Orchestra directed by Etienne Charles as well as the Mica Bethea Big Band of Jacksonville, Florida. Seth also performed in the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia led by Terell Stafford.
Seth is the Jazz Artist in Residence at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Michigan where he directs the large and small jazz ensembles and teaches applied jazz improvisation. Seth also serves as the Jazz Woodwind Faculty at the Kalamazoo Jazz & Creative Institute, an organization dedicated to bringing a quality jazz education to high school students in Southwest Michigan.
In April of 2018, Seth released his debut record “Sometimes I’m Happy” featuring performances from Rodney Whitaker, Diego Rivera, and Randy Napoleon. The record is a celebration of the musical relationships and experiences that have contributed to his own perspective on the music. Seth currently resides in Lansing and continues to perform nationally and regionally.
